ON A BRISK morning, hot chocolate and steaming coffee were just the thing to go with a tasty toastie at Connectivi-Tea, the new welfare outreach program at The Salvation Army Greensborough.
Based at the Corps/Church at 2 Flodden Way, Briar Hill, every Wednesday from 10am–1pm, the program aims to redress the urgent need witnessed in our community.
According to research data collected by the Salvos HQ in November 2025:

  • Over half (54 per cent) of Australians believe they will struggle to pay for at least one essential item in the next three months (Australia NOW – Nov 2025)
  • 68 per cent of Australians said they had felt stressed or anxious at some point over the past week (Australia NOW – Nov 25)
  • Over one in three Australians admit they have had to dip into their savings in 2025
  • One in six Australian households have gone without basic essentials due to a lack of income or money over the past three months (TSA Sentiment Tracker).

These statistics were gathered before the escalation in the Middle East, and before the rate rises this year.
In response to the demand, it is estimated that every 17 seconds, someone comes to The Salvation Army for help (The Salvation Army’s Annual Report 2025).
Community needs responded to by the wider Salvation Army include, but are not limited to, financial counselling, those impacted by addiction, homelessness, family violence, and services for young people.
Appeals like the recent Red Shield Appeal help meet these demands.
At Greensborough, a financial counsellor from Moneycare will be present two days a week including the Wednesday Connectivi-Tea.
It is best to make an appointment to see them by calling 1800 722 363.
However, you do not have to be in need to come and say, “Hello”.
A Salvos spokesperson invited anyone who would like someone to chat with for a while and have a cuppa and a toastie, to drop in at Connectivi-Tea.
“We look forward to meeting and sharing with you.
“So don’t be shy — Come and say Hi!”
