Jagajaga Community Awards shine a light on our volunteers

THE ANNUAL Jagajaga Community Volunteer Awards, hosted by Federal Member for Jagajaga Kate Thwaites MP, recognise the people and organisations who give their time, energy and expertise to strengthen our local community.
This year, 66 individuals and community groups representing more than 70 organisations were recognised for their contribution, including a large presence from the Nillumbik Shire Community.
Among those honoured were the Eltham Junior Football Club and the Eltham Redbacks Football Club.
Together, these clubs support more than 1,500 local players and their families, creating opportunities for young people to build confidence, friendships, and a strong sense of belonging through sport.
Behind every training session, game day and club event are dedicated volunteers who selflessly contribute their time to ensure local sport remains welcoming, inclusive, and accessible.
These sports clubs, as well as the other volunteer organisations honoured in this year’s awards, bring people together and strengthen community connections.
State MP for Eltham, Vicki Ward, supported Ms Thwaites in presenting the awards.
Ms Thwaites said it is a “great honour and opportunity” to celebrate the contributions and recognise community volunteers whose efforts help make the Nillumbik Shire community and surrounds a better place to live.
