Have you claimed your Rego rebate?

THE LAUNCH of the State Government’s car registration rebate initiative made headlines on the first day of winter, with reports that the Services Victoria App had crashed due to high demand.
The Government is offering up to 20 per cent off car registrations, a rebate of $186 for a driver with one car, or $372 for a family with two cars.
Drivers have until July 31, 2026, to apply.
Following reports of the Services Victoria App crash, State Premier Jacinta Allan released this statement:

“I know lots of Victorians have been online this morning trying to claim 20 per cent off their car rego.
The response has been huge — bigger than we expected.
So far, we’ve had more than 42,000 applications lodged, and up to 650 are being processed every minute.
That demand has caused some technical difficulties — but the website is now back up and running.”

As of Wednesday, June 3, over one million Victorians applied for their rebate.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Ros Spence, applauded the initiative.

“This is real help that is putting money back in the pockets of Victorians.”

A week later, on June 10, that number had surpassed two million.
Looking at Historical data from the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport estimates there are around 4.5 million eligable vehiciles in Victoria.
Victoria’s Minster for Government Services, Ingrid Stitt, said she was thrilled at the scheme hitting the two million milestone.

“I’m thrilled that more than two million Victorians have already claimed 20 per cent off thier rego.
If you haven’t yet – it takes minutes.”

To be eligible for the rebate, Victorians need to have paid their registration between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, for a light vehicle for personal use.
