Consultation begins for Warrandyte 5-Ways intersection

COMMUNITY consultation has begun on the 5-Way intersection in Warrandyte South.
The local community has been petitioning for action to fix the dangerous intersection since 2019, and it has been a hot-button issue for current Member for Warrandyte Nicole Werner MP and her predecessor, Ryan Smith.
At the 2025 Federal Election, which saw the seat of Menzies become a contested marginal seat following redistribution, both Labor and Liberal candidates promised funding if their party formed government.
A billion-dollar investment from the Federal Government contributed to a $1.2B road blitz, which includes $25 million for planning and development of the 5-Ways intersection.
The consultation opened on Monday, November 17, with a survey and a project map, where the community can drop pins and add comments about improvements, safety, project ideas, or any other thoughts they may have.
Federal Member for Menzies, Gabriel Ng, encouraged the community and those who travel through the intersection to contribute.

“This project is important in making sure locals can get home safer and quicker.
“I encourage everyone in the community to get involved and have their say.”

The consultation is available on the Victorian Big Build website.
There will also be a “Meet the Project Team” event at Riverlea Estate on November 30.
Community consultation closes on December 7.
More than 8,000 vehicles use the intersection daily, and the upgrade aims to make it safer and more efficient for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

“We’re getting on with the planning work needed to fix one of Warrandyte’s most challenging intersections,” said Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne.
“Improving safety and reducing congestion for everyone who uses it.”

Community input will help Big Build understand how people use the intersection and identify the improvements that are most needed.
Planning is already underway, including traffic analysis, design development, and on-site investigations to better understand local conditions.
Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits may be required at times, but traffic disruption will be minimised wherever possible.
Initial planning is expected to be completed in 2026.
Residents and local businesses can have their say by visiting engage.vic.gov.au/warrandyte5ways.
The in-person event will happen at the Riverlea Estate Cellar Door, 486 Ringwood-Warrandyte Road, on Sunday, November 30, from 10am to 3pm.
Following the consultation, the feedback received will be used to inform the planning work and help shape design options.
Big Build said it will share a summary in early 2026.
The planning phase will be used to inform government decisions on future funding.
