Bridging the Gap to better mental health support
TWO COMMUNITY fundraising events to be held at Templestowe Bowling Club in October will contribute to the seed funding of Doncare’s new Bridging the Gap mental health service.
The service is being established in response to a growing number of people seeking support for challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, family violence, and financial stress, but finding themselves unable to access appropriate care.
Many do not qualify for government-funded specialist mental health programs, while private psychological support remains out of reach financially.
Clinical psychology can cost from $230–$350 a session.
Doncare’s Bridging the Gap program will address this gap by providing affordable, trauma-informed psychological support linked with practical community services and recovery supports.
The fundraising events, titled I Am Woman, will be held on October 9 at 10 am and 15 at 7pm, coinciding with World Menopause Day,
The events will feature women’s health educator and Martin & Pleasance Health Ambassador Susan Gianevsky, who has spent more than three decades working in women’s health education and wellbeing.
Susan will speak about maintaining health and balance through different stages of life, covering topics including hormones, sleep, skin health, and weight management.
The events are designed as an opportunity for women to come together, share experiences and learn practical approaches to wellbeing.
Funds raised will contribute to the establishment of Doncare’s new service, which aims to provide coordinated care for people whose circumstances are often too complex for existing support pathways.
Doncare is seeking to raise $300,000 to bring the service to life and has already received significant backing from community organisations and donors.
The event has been made possible through the support of Templestowe Bowling Club, which has donated the venue, allowing all donations to be directed to Doncare.
